In line with the rest of the country, Meghalaya will start offering the CorBevax Covid-19 vaccine as a booster dose to those who have received either Covisheld or Covaxin prior.
This was informed by the Director of Health Services, Dr I Challam, today in a release.
Last week, the central government approved Biological E’s CorBevax as a booster (known officially in India as a ‘precaution dose’) for those above 18 years who are fully vaccinated with either Covishield or Covaxin.
This is the first time that a booster dose that is different from the one used for primary vaccination against Covid has been allowed in the country. Biological E is an Indian company based out of Hyderabad.
Like any Covid booster, CorBevax will be available as a precaution dose after six months or 26 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose of either Covaxin or Covishield for those over 18.
However, Covaxin and Covishield will also still be available as a booster dose.
Dr Challam ended with a plea for the general public to ensure that they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
“It is requested and advised that all eligible people should come forward for vaccination as Covid-19 is still very much still present amongst us. Until we defeat this pandemic, everyone is still advised to follow Covid protocols – wear your mask, wash or sanitise your hands and maintain distance, especially in public areas,” the DHS said.
