The state cabinet today approved a move that would allow IAS probationers of joint Assam-Meghalaya cadre to take their exams in Meghalaya, with options for local languages and a paper more oriented to the state.
In the past, the IAS probationers in question had to take the tests prepared by the Assam Public Service Commission as Meghalaya did not have its own set of rules for the conduct of such exams.
The cabinet also approved a proposal to group posts carrying the same scale of pay with similar qualifications in one advertisement.
Previously, the Meghalaya Public Service Commission would conduct different examinations and hold selection processes for different departments, which was time consuming.
Instead of having different exams for different departments, the MPSC will now club exams in one go and these will be held together in the interest of saving time, avoiding duplication and to streamline the work of the MPSC.
