Governor Satya Pal Mali and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma congratulated NDA presidential nominee Droupadi Murmu after she emerged victorious in the election.
“Only in India can a Tribal Woman become the President. Best wishes and congratulations to the new President, #DroupadiMurmu ji,” the Governor tweeted.
The Chief Minister said it is a historic day as the highest post in the country is being held by a tribal woman. “In some ways it was inconceivable many years back and today it is happening, which shows how this great nation of ours is moving forward in the right direction,” he said in a video release.
“As the 1st tribal Presidential Candidate, (L) P A Sangma always knew that this day would come. He would’ve been overjoyed if he were here. Congratulations Smti. Murmu ji! As a tribal community, we so proudly share in your joy and your milestone. You did it for each one of us!” he also tweeted.
