The torch relay for the Chess Olympiad, which will be hosted by India, will reach and halt at Shillong on Saturday.
The handing over of the torch by Mitrba Guha, a chess grandmaster, will take place at the Sports Authority of India Centre at NEHU on July 10 at 8am.
The 44th Chess Olympiad has been awarded to India by the International Chess Federation (known by its French acronym FIDE) and will be held in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, running from July 28 to August 9.
The torch relay was launched in New Delhi on June 19.
In this edition, FIDE has instituted the first ever Chess Olympiad torch relay to mark the event being held in India, the land where chess originated. The torch will travel across the country, covering 75 iconic locations as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” celebration to mark 75 years of independence.
