Shillong, Aug 5: Karatekas of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) won 41 gold medals along with 21 silver and 26 bronze in a fabulous performance at the Indian Challenger Cup 2026 in Kolkata recently.
AMKA had sent a contingent of 73 karatekas along with officials Donboklang Lyngdoh, Mingson Rymbai, Greater EM Kharpuri and Pynhunlang Kharbuli to the July 31 to August 2 event.
In a release today, AMKA thanked the state government for its financial support extended towards the athletes under the team preparation for the 39th National Games 2027, which Meghalaya will host. The association also congratulated all the medallists and other participants for “representing the state with dedication and commitment.”
Among the successful karatekas were multiple medal winners, including six who won three each.
These were Jason Mcryan Malngiang, who bagged 3 gold in kumite, individual kata and team kata and Dakitdorbha L Chyne, Elisheba Khongwar, Gideon Tympuin, Rebeka Nongspung and Savio Bakynsai Majaw, who all won 2 gold and 1 silver each.
