The District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi today issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC banning the plying of vehicles in excess of 20 MT over Umiam bridge and plying of two heavy vehicles, carrying the gross weight or less, at the same time over the bridge.
The order also prohibits plying vehicles in excess of 40MT over the Dwar Ksuid bridge.
This was necessitated after a government order on the urgent need to immediate regulate the flow of heavy vehicles at Umiam and Dwar Ksuid in order to prevent further deterioration of the bridges.
