The 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters Shillong carried out an awareness and cleaning programme on the need to clear plastics and other waste materials from the Balkavari river in Edenbari, West Garo Hill district.
A rally was also conducted today by the 78 Junior Division Cadets of 41 Meghalaya Bn NCC from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School in Tura which culminated at the banks of Balkavari.
The programme was carried out under the nationwide campaign, ‘Puneet Sagar’ to free seashores and river banks from plastic and other waste materials and increase awareness about importance of keeping these clean.
The aim of the campaign was to propagate the message of ‘Importance of Clean Seashores and Riverbanks’ amongst the local population and future generation.
The rally was addressed by Father Threnius N Sangma, Principal Don Bosco HS School and Sub Heman Chhetri, Permanent Instructor with 41 Megh Bn NCC flagged off the rally.
Third Officer Salina Walsena D Marak, ANO Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and two young cadets gave speech on water conservation and importance of clean water.
Four Non-Commissioned officers posted as permanent instructors with 41 Meghalaya Bn NCC and a care taker officer from the school also participated in the awareness rally.
