The LPG bottling plant in Umiam, Ri-Bhoi district is set to become a reality soon.
The Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has started the tender process for land development and construction of the boundary wall for an amount of Rs27 crore.
The IOCL informed this before the division bench of the Meghalaya High Court during hearing of a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) on the matter.
IOCL also stated that an application has been made to the District Forest Officer for permission of felling of trees at the site and in lieu of such trees new trees would be planted elsewhere.
It also informed the court that a meeting has been held with the district authorities in Ri-Bhoi for the issuance of a no objection certificate for the project. The crucial consent from the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board has been obtained.
In view of these developments, the High Court decided to let the matter stand over for six weeks in the hope that the work would have commenced by then.
The court also requested officials of the district administration and forest to look into the applications moved by IOCL expeditiously and in accordance with law. The next hearing on the matter will be held on June 8.
