Balawansuk Makri was crowned Miss Ri Bhoi Tourism 2022 at Pahamsyiem, Nongpoh, yesterday.
The beauty pageant was organised by the Ri Bhoi Tourism and Environment Development Forum to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The aim of the contest was to encourage the younger generation to be close to nature and to take responsibility to protect the environment as well as to showcase the rich tradition and culture of Ri-Bhoi.
Twenty hopefuls took part in the pageant. In second place was Jessica Nongrum while Deimaphishisha Khongjoh came third. Makri took home Rs 50,000, with Rs 25,000 going to Nongrum and Rs 15,000 to Khongjoh.
Makri said that the people of Ri-Bhoi and Meghalaya as a whole should do all they can to stop the unwanted destruction of nature, which is a serious issue that needs to be addressed here and globally.
