Bethany Hospital, Shillong opened its first centre for reproductive medicine and infertility in Shillong to celebrate its 20 years of service.
Set up with the objective to help couples overcome infertility, the centre offers a wide range of treatment facilities.
Infertility is a common medical problem. Worldwide, 60 to 80 million couples in the reproductive age group are said to be facing difficulty in conceiving, out of which 15 million of couples are in India, IVF consultant and infertility specialist, Dr Batiston D Waanbah said.
He informed that the centre will provide a comprehensive treatment covering IUI, IVF, ICSI treatments.
Secretary of Health Rosetta M Kurbah and East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo attended the inauguration function.
Kurbah said that the centre will allow families looking for assisted reproductive services to get help near home instead of chasing for care and treatment outside the State.
Laloo, congratulated the hospital and lauded the team for their commendable initiative of providing quality treatment that would cater to all couples in need of treatment.
Director of Bethany Hospital, Achula D. Sailo, Rev. Lyndan Syiem and the others were present on the occasion.
