Prakash Pradhan of Cotton University, Guwahati emerged victorious at the GeoQuiz-2022 NE Level competition. Over 70 registered participants are students of higher secondary level from the Northeastern region.
Pradhan took away the cash prize of Rs 15,000. Brian Lim Sun of St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong who secured second was awarded with Rs 10,000 and Nishant Sharma of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEHU, Shillong in the third position was awarded Rs 5000.
Keneth Meriker Nongtraw of Army Public School, Shillong and Md. Abul Kader Laskar of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar secured fourth and fifth positions respectively and received consolations prizes of Rs. 1000 each. All other participants received participation certificates.
The competition was jointly organized by the Krishnanunni Memorial Charitable Trust and Department of Geology, North-Eastern Hill University today to celebrate National Science Day.
Earlier, the inaugural Session started with the welcome address by Prof. Devesh Walia, Head of the Department of Geology, NEHU who inspired the young generation to pursue their career in the field of Geological Sciences and contribute towards the nation building. He also emphasized that geoscience is important in securing our world’s demand for energy, building infrastructure, advancing science and technology, sustaining the global food supply, predicting and reacting to natural disasters and everything in between.
Dr. Anupendu Gupta, Vice President, Krishnanunni Memorial Charitable Trust in his inaugural address highlighted noteworthy contributions of Shri Krishnanunni and wished the very best to all the participants for their future endeavours. He stressed on the importance of geosciences for the development of the society and to improve the economy of the Nation.
Dr. Rasik Ravindra, Former Director, National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research, Goa spoke about the numerous contributions of Krishnanunni in his 36 years long career in GSI and his life-time contributions in promoting remote sensing activities in the country.
