The Congress MLAs who rebelled against their party by extending support to the MDA government have been rewarded for their action.
Mawlai MLA Process T. Sawkmie and West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang were appointed as co-chairman of Meghalaya New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (MNREDA).
Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem was appointed as co-chairman of Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA Kimfa Marbaniang was appointed co-chairman of Meghalaya Government Construction Company (MGCC).
East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh however did not find a place in the latest appointment.
However, her husband Fantin J. Lakadong was appointed as vice chairman of MGCC. Lakadong who is the MDC from Laitumkhrah-Malki constituency has recently announced his keenness to join the NPP.
Meanwhile, two former MLAs, Limison D. Sangma and Billykid A. Sangma, who joined the NPP recently, were appointed as co-chairmen of Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB).
The appointees will be entitled to perks and facilities under Category “A+”.
It may be mentioned that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had yesterday hinted that the MDA government would accommodate the five suspended Congress MLAs in various government positions.
“We will utilise their expertise well in the government,” Tynsong had said, adding that all the five MLAs “are good, constructive and productive elected representatives”.
A few days back, the Congress suspended the five MLAs for extending support to the MDA government backed by BJP.
The party has also given them ten days to reply to the show cause notice and also to withdraw their support to the government.
However, the suspended MLAs said that they will submit their replies in twelve days. They also said that their decision to support the government was for the interest of their own constituencies.
