Based on reliable sources, Ri-Bhoi police seized a large consignment of explosives and arrested two suspects today.
The Assam-registered vehicle (AS 01 LC 1112) was intercepted by police at Byrnihat.
According to Superintendent of Police Giri Prasad, the two suspects (names withheld by police) were transporting two bundles of 50 aluminium electronic detonators and 12 cartons of gelatin sticks.
They were on their way from East Jaiñtia Hills towards Guwahati when they were stopped by police.
A criminal case has been registered and further interrogations are on to track down other persons who were involved in the illegal smuggling of explosives without valid documents, Prasad added.
