Meghalaya has a total of 20, 81,570 electors — 10, 28,395 males and 10, 53,173females — the final electoral roll published by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), FR Kharkongor said.
During the Special Summary Revision, the total number of new additions is 54,712. Against this addition, new electors added in the age group 18-19 years are 35,980, which accounts for 65 per cent of the total additions. There are also two trans-genders amongst the electorate and service electors at 3,822, Kharkongor informed.
He said the total numbers deleted due to death or shifting is 9,051 and corrections account for 23,224. There is also an increase in the gender ratio as per the current electoral rolls, which is 1, 024 when compared to the 2011 census which was 989, he added.
The number of polling stations has gone up to 3,335 as another 141 of them were newly created.
“In view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, intensive efforts were made to encourage online enrolment via contactless and digital mediums such as NVSP (National Voters Service Portal), VHA (Voter Helpline App) & the BLO GARUDA App. Registration through online mode accounts for nearly 30% of total enrolments,” Kharkongor said.
He said that e-EPIC download facility will be available only to the newly added electors for the present. This facility will however be gradually extended to all the general voters in the coming months.
Door step delivery of EPICs will also be available after the National Voters’ Day on January 25 in a phased manner, as per the agreement executed by the office of CEO and the Department of Posts, he said.
To provide a personal touch to newly registered voters, they will also be provided with a special Voter’s Welcome Kit, which contains a personalized letter to the elector along with a voter’s pledge in the forthcoming National Voters’ Day, 2022, he added.
