In a delayed report, a widow filed an FIR against eight persons, two of whom she accused of molesting and then defaming her by posting photos on social media, while the other six, who are her in-laws, forced her out of her own house after the photos went viral.
According to the FIR, two persons, Sadikur Rehman and Saiful Islam, came to her house, which falls under the jurisdiction of Phulbari police station, a few days prior to her FIR on the pretext that she owed them money for some soil she had taken from them.
“They sat on a bench in our home and Sadikur, taking advantage of me being a widow, forcefully tried to kiss me while Saiful took photos. I was in shock and began shouting, after which they ran away. Ever since, Sadikur has been mentally harassing me and trying to blackmail me into a sexual relationship with him,” alleged the widow.
Apparently, when she did not oblige, the photo that was forcefully taken was uploaded on social media and went viral. The event, she said, had taken a toll on her mental health and contributed towards her going into depression.
The trauma for the woman did not end there, as her four brothers-in-law then forced her out of the house, telling her to stay with the person she accused of harassing her.
“The house is mine and they have illegally sealed it with the intention of taking it permanently for themselves,” she said.
Further, she added that her sons were also taken away from her and have been forced into manual labour by their uncles. Her 13-year-old son, according to the complaint, was being forced to work in a hotel.
The woman stated that she had tried to sort the matter out through a village meeting but the two she accused of acting against her were unwilling to relent.
Confirming the receipt of the complaint, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Vivekananda Singh, said that the case was being investigated and action would follow following the findings in the case.
