West Garo Hills District Magistrate, Ram Singh has issued an order restricting sale of edible food packets containing toys and gifts in the entire district.
The order was passed as per the advisory issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) that states that states and union territories should discourage the practice of packing of toys/gifts with food products for infants and small children as there are chances of contamination and risk of accidental ingestion.
The order will come into force from December 20, the district magistrate said, adding, this is done to prevent any untoward incident in the future.
