The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) has written to the power minister, Prestone Tynsong for reconnection of electricity to households of Shiddakandi after the same was disconnected due to non-payment of bills.
In a memorandum to the minister today, AMMSU explained that on December 2, the power lines to the villages under Shiddakandi were disconnected without any notice being provided to consumers by the SDM, MeECL. Both the BPL lines as well as those of the general population were disconnected.
“As you are aware, students are currently preparing for their selection exams for both the SSLC and HSSLC and this move will drastically affect their preparations. As such we would like to request you to kindly instruct the officers concerned to reconnect the electric lines for the sake of the children,” said AMMSU president, Nur Islam.
