Cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar yesterday inaugurated the Deborlew South Riwar Viewpoint, located at Tynnai village in South West Khasi Hills in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Caramai Kharkongngor.
Tongkhar lauded the landowner Blirin Shylla for all the efforts he and his family have put in to make the viewpoint a reality and felt sure that it will not only attract tourists and become a source of livelihood to many but make the district more popular and known to the world.
Lyngdoh Tongkhar expressed hope that with the presence of such a tourist spot in the district will also rival the fame and popularity of Sohra.
He urged the people of the district to be warm and show respect and hospitality towards the tourists coming to the spot from within and outside the state and to work together in promoting tourism.
Such an undertaking by Shylla will encourage others and the minister promised that, as the local MLA, he will earmark financial assistance to further improve the tourist spot.
Shylla said that he had already spent more than Rs 4 lakh for beautifying and improving the tourist spot through which one can view the scenic beauty of the hills, waterfalls and river as well as the picturesque beauty of the plains of Bangladesh in the distance.
