In another major success for the police of Meghalaya and Assam, a trader from Goalpara, who was kidnapped a few days ago, was rescued in a joint operation that lasted almost 24 hours.
One of the members of the kidnapping gang was apprehended by the police.
According to police sources from East Garo Hills, information was received from the Superintendent of Police of Goalpara in Assam that one Robiul Islam was kidnapped and was being kept near the village of Rongmil under Rongjeng Police Station in EGH.
Robiul, a trader, was kidnapped from near Gabil Bi’sa, close to the border between East and North Garo Hills by a group of armed men with the intention to ransom him.
Assisted by the NGH police as well as their counterparts from Assam, at about 12am on November 12, an operation was launched by the special operations team from EGH. A combing operation was carried out through the area.
Fearing that the police were getting closer, the kidnappers released Robiul at about 9pm yesterday. He was released by his abductors at Chikal Pekro.
During the operation, police managed to nab one Bronson Momin, who, according to police sources, was involved in the incident along with a few others and efforts to arrest them are currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, police informed that the victim was handed over to the Assam authorities after the completion of formalities.
