The Co-Curricular Academic Development Committee of Shillong College organised an inter-college offline quiz competition programme on the theme “50 years of Meghalaya – A trip Down Memory Lane” to commemorate 50 years of statehood today.
The programme was compered by R Diengdoh and it commenced with a very warm welcome speech by LM Pariat from the Department of English.
The inaugural address was by SK Sharma, IQAC co-ordinator, who said that the purpose of organising such programmes is to celebrate the spirit of statehood.
An invited talk was given by R Pyngrope, Department of Political Science. In her talk, she spoke about the history of Meghalaya pre- and post-independence and enlightened the audience with her knowledge of eminent personalities who brought glory to the state.
Eleven different colleges participated in the competition. The quiz started with a preliminary round and was then followed with a final round of five teams.
The questions covered a vast range of topics. There were also audio and visual rounds. It was a tough contest and even included a rapid-fire round. The quiz master for the event was NP Jyrwa.
The distribution of certificates and prizes was conducted by SK Sharma. Nikita Kumari and Blari Dashisha Lyngdoh of St Mary’s College emerged as the top scorers, followed by Gary Wendell Suchiang and Daohi Manar of Martin Luther Christain University. Third place went to Manhakani Passah and Md Niyazul Rahman of St Edmund’s College.
