The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan yesterday organised the Swacch Bharat or Clean India campaign at Lad Thanat, Saitsohpen, Sohra. The cleaning drive was launched by Dr. K Kharnaïor in-charge of Sohra CHC.
Speeches were delivered by the Acting Sirdar Saitsohpen Elaka S Kharmalki, Bloack Coordinator L Sohkhlet Block, Shella Block National Youth Volunteer K Nongrum and Capt. Rikynti Kynta, ANO 61 Battalion Girls NCC, Meghalaya.
Different groups, departments and organisations also joined the cleaning drive. They include NSS volunteers from Sohra Government College, NCC cadets of Rama Krishna Mission Higher Secondary School Sohra, police personnel from Sohra Police Station, staff of Sohra CHC, staff from Shella-Bholaganj Block, Forest Deparment, Indian Oil Petrol Station, Post Office, Punjab National Bank, Meghalaya Rural Bank, BSNL, students and teachers of Sohra Academy Secondary School, members of the Seng Samla and Sanitation Committee of Saitsohpen, local residents and shopkeepers.
Special invitees included Wanstep Diengdoh, Principal of Sohra Academy Secondary School who is also the author of ‘Ka Thup Spah Ki Poetry Khasi’ and former National Youth Volunteers S Shati from Shella Block and S Phanbuh from Laitkroh Block.
The programme was conducted by K Nongrum and Ri-ïalam Lynnong, Shella Block National Youth Volunteers.
