A driver of a JCB excavator lost his life last evening when a mudslide submerged his vehicle with him trapped inside.
The victim, Joniral Ch Momin, was working on cutting earth from a low hill when the entire hill collapsed on him. He was working on moving earth for the construction of a road in the village of Gasuapara, South Garo Hills.
Local residents who saw the incident immediately rushed to help him with another excavator, even joining in the rescue act. However, it took a while before he was brought out of the mud and, despite attempts to resuscitate him, the victim passed away of asphyxiation.
Confirming the incident, the Superintendent of Police, Rithuraj Ravi, informed that the victim was brought dead to the local health centre in Gasuapara.
