The West Garo Hills district magistrate has prohibited movement of people within 100 metres from the Indo Bangladesh border from 6 pm to 6 am daily.
The order passed under Section 144 Cr PC stated that there is an apprehension with regards to the movements of international gang and criminals and the presence of smugglers and other anti-national elements in large numbers near the international border during the night to smuggle cattle, contraband goods etc from India.
Along with this apprehension, there are reports that terrorist or fundamentalist are also trying to sneak into the Indian territory during night hours which if not prohibited may adversely affect the security of the State.
Hence, the order will come into force with immediate effect and will in force until further orders, the district magistrate said.
