The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU), education cell has expressed dejection and dismay over the slow progress of work for construction of the Shillong Medical College.
In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister in charge of health, Prestone Tynsong today the KSU has sought clarification on the progress made for the construction of the college which aims to cater to the needs of the ever increasing medical aspirants in the State.
The KSU pointed out that though the college was founded in 2017 at Reid Chest Hospital, Mawbah and shifted to another site at Umsawli in New Shillong, it is yet to see the light of day due to conflict with the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms.
Quoting sources information that the Kolkata based firm, Kali Pradip Choudhuri (KPC) responsible for the development of the Medical College possess a tainted image in tax evasion in and outside the country the KSU said that it has had many verbal discussion and letters on the need to expedite the work of the Shillong Medical College and to revisit the agreement signed with the firm responsible for development work.
