The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) today downplayed forming a new dispensation with the Congress and said that the NPP led MDA government is giving the best services to the people.
HSPDP MLA and cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said the party has never received anything in writing from the Congress, and if it does, the party will discuss whether it can be considered even for a discussion.
He however maintained that the MDA government has also been elected by the public and has full responsibility and given the best service to the people of the state.
The Meghalaya Congress Legislature Party recently had called for a new ruling dispensation in the state, claiming that Meghalaya is not safe in the hands of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his political allies. The Congress made the statement after violence rocked Shillong last week.
But the HSPDP said that the MDA government is serious to bring back peace and normalcy in the State. Tongkhar said, “We also have full faith in the government who have constituted the judicial inquiry into the killing of the ex-general secretary of the HNLC on August 13 and we are hopeful that the truth comes out.”
Tongkhar further said his party yearns for people, pressure groups, political parties and all stakeholders to take the responsibility to restore peace.
HSPDP president KP Pangniang said his party has taken “better steps” in various issues with the support of the current government rather than the previous governments.
“I don’t know if the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam can be resolved or not but we can clearly understand that under the MDA, this is the best attempt it has made so far to resolve this vexed issue once and for all,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the HSPDP has also decided to honour all the Hill state fighters right from the time of APHLC and the HSPDP during the golden celebration of Meghalaya.
Informing that there are over 300 volunteers of the HSPDP who were jailed during the fight for hill state, he said that the HSPDP will be meeting all the members on November 10 in this regard.
