A case of exorbitant hospital bill for treatment of a Covid-19 patient was raised by the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) even as the State government has put a cap on the cost of treatment for such patients.
According to CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing a private hospital reportedly charged around Rs 74,419 from a family from Pynursla for two nights of hospitalisation. The patient was admitted on July 27 and discharged on July 29.
Kharshiing said “A copy of the bill handed by the private hospital to the family is with the organisation and it will be produced if the State government takes note or show interest.”
She said the name of the hospital is not being disclosed publicly but if the government initiates an enquiry, the organisation would name it.
“The charging of such a huge amount by a Government empanelled private hospital is painful and amounts to broad daylight robbery from poor citizens,” she added.
The CSWO president also lamented that the Health Department is not at all monitoring the costly affair of covid treatment and said that she is compelled to take up the issue to court against the government including private hospitals.
