Ri Bhoi police on Friday recovered a huge quantity of explosives from a vehicle in Byrnihat at around 1:10 am.
The vehicle (TUV 300) bearing registration number AS-01 BV 8065 was initially signalled to stop at Umsning but the driver evaded the police team, police said.
After if it was detained in Byrnihat, a search was conducted and police recovered 2044 aluminium instantaneous electrical detonator and 4027 of neo-gel (gelatine sticks) from the vehicle.
Police seized the explosives and the driver of the vehicle identified as Moynul Hoque from Rangsaswari village under Naarbera Police Station, Kamrup District, Assam was arrested.
“A criminal case has been registered under Nongpoh Police Station against the occupant of the vehicle under relevant provision of the Explosive Substances Act and the explosive substances have also been seized. The investigation of the case is in progress to further ascertain the facts,” Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai said.
