The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is willing to shift its temporary base from Mawlai to other parts of the city if the State government identifies a location.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said after a memorandum submitted by a delegation of nine rangbah shnongs of Mawlai area along with their MDC Teiborlang Pathaw today he had spoke to the CRPF IG on the issue.
“The CRPF is more than willing to shift the camp, if the government can give an alternative location and can give a permanent site. Therefore we will immediately take steps to shift the camp which will be in the interest of the CRPF and Mawlai,” the Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, Sangma and his deputy Prestone Tynsong has urged the rangbah shnongs to play an active role to ensure that peace is restored in Mawlai area and Shillong city.
“The response was positive and the rangbah shnongs have told us that they will do anything in their capacity to mobilise people and to ensure that no further incidents take place,” the Chief Minister said.
