Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), ASHA and Aganwadi workers were felicitated yesterday by the Dorbar Shnong of Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng village of West Khasi Hills after the village achieved 92 per cent of Covid vaccination for residents aged 45 years and above and 18 years and above.

The frontline workers who were felicitated today are G K Nonglong (ANM), Monica Thongni (ASHA), Dwilina Lyngkhoi (ASHA) and six Aganwadi workers – Plinalin Kharbani, Kheldamon Diengdoh, Syrpailin Kharbani, Dimbilis Diengdoh, Emerilincy Kharbani and Lucy Mary Rangjadong.

Vice Chairman of Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng village dorbar S Syiem said that ANM, ASHA and Aganwadi workers have played a key role in screening people in the village and conducting door to door survey to trace out people having symptoms of Covid-19 and also in helping the Covid-19 patients during the quarantine period.

“Despite the problem that they faced from people who have bad attitude, rudeness and disrespectful yet the frontliners healthcare workers encouraged the villagers to get vaccinated and through their convincing efforts and awareness that they created among the villagers, Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng village has achieved 92 per cent vaccination and we hope that by the end of this year our village will achieve the target of 100 per cent vaccination” Syiem said.

Myntri of Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng, Balentine Sohlang said despite of all risks involved in conducting screening, ASHA, ANM and Aganwadi workers showed a lot of courage and dedication during the pandemic while all the healthcare workers in the village remained at the frontline especially in areas which were under micro containment.

He said that ANM, ASHA and Aganwadi workers deserve to be felicitated and the Dorbar will remain grateful for their tremendous service during these hard times.
