Six men have been arrested for being involved in the heinous crime of gang rape of three minor girls. The crime scene is Ummir Village under the Diengpasoh Police Station on the outskirts of the capital. .
According to reports on August 8, the girls were invited for an outing by a friend with some other friends, but as they drove away from their village, more men joined the group. Some arrived at the location in a green car whose owner has also been arrested.
There were more than a dozen of them, sources said. When they reached the forested area of Ummir village the girls, by now held captive, were dragged to the jungles where six or seven men raped them.
Unconfirmed sources said that a 13 year old managed to escape, helped by one other person in the group.
The survivors were all taken for medical examination.
It is also learnt that one of the men kicked and assaulted one of the girls afterwards and even tried to strangle her to death. Police are still ascertaining whether this happened to the other girls also.
A case has been registered under Diengpasoh PS case no 14 (08) 2021 u/s 5 (g)/6 POCSO Act r/w sec 506 IPC.
Earlier, 14 persons were picked up out of which six persons were identified as the criminals by the survivors. One of them is said to be a married man with children. All are residents of Mawpdang, according to police.
