The Meghalaya Retired College Teachers’ Association (MRCTA) expressed its sadness at the death of Ashok Bijoy Chakraborty, the former vice-principal and head of the Department of Mathematics at Lady Keane College.
Prof Chakraborty passed away yesterday in Gurgaon following heart-related issues.
Born on April 1, 1937, in Karimganj, Chakraborty completed his Master’s degree in mathematics from Gauhati University and then served in Lady Keane College for more than three decades until his retirement on March 31, 1997.
A great exponent of mathematics, he made an indelible impression on his students by simplifying the concepts of the subject with adorable commitment. Such was his love and sincerity for the subject as well as his students that he took classes writing complex mathematical derivations even with his left hand when he fractured the right hand accidentally.
The MRCTA offered its condolences to the family members of the deceased, especially Chakraborty’s wife Manjaree, the former head of the Department of Chemistry at Lady Keane College, and their children.
