A meeting to pursue with the demand to upgrade Mawsynram block to a civil sub-division was held today in Seng Khasi Dorbar Hall, Mawsynram.
The meeting was attended by Mawsynram MLA, Himalaya M Shangpliang, MDC Albin Sawkmie, rangbah shnongs, sordars and representatives of groups like the HYC, KSU, UHM, FKJGP and HANM wherein it was decided to adopt a resolution on the need to upgrade the block which would be submitted to the State government.
The meeting also decided to form a body that would include all the representatives of the villages under Mawsynram including the MLA and MDC to take up the demand, which has been the aspiration of the people in the region for 20 long years.
It may also be mentioned that with a notification from the Registrar General, Census creation of new districts in Meghalaya may have to be put on hold as the administrative boundaries of all districts, civil sub-divisions, blocks and villages will remain as they are till December 31 this year till the completion of Census 2021.
