The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress has hit out at the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who said, on his two-day visit to the state that concluded yesterday, that Meghalaya has only begun to develop after the BJP came to power in 2014.
In a release today, MPMC president Joplyn Scott Shylla said that such a statement is an attempt to stake claim to someone else’s achievements.
“The way the Union Home Minister stated this seems to portray that we as a state all this while was living in the dark ages. Perhaps he should have done his homework well before making such unfounded and immature statements in public,” Shylla said. The MDA government should have at least done its part to inform the Union Home Minister.
She pointed out that it was under Indira Gandhi that Meghalaya came into being and it was also due to the Congress that institutions such as IIM Shillong, NEIGRIHMS, NIT and NEHU came into being.
“The NPP and the BJP, including their regional allies, have nothing to show except to take credit for the work of the Congress Party,” the Mahila president added.
