      Covid-19: Average daily cases back over 450

      Meghalaya recorded 558 new Covid-19 infections today, as well as 375 recoveries and six fatalities.

      This was the highest number of new cases in a single day since July 1 and pushed the seven-day rolling average to 456.14, the highest it has been since July 7. The seven-day rolling average of Covid-related fatalities also rose to its highest since June 18; it now stands at 7.57.

      East Khasi Hills recorded 192 new cases today, West Garo Hills 140, Ri-Bhoi 62, West Khasi Hills 44, South West Khasi Hills 24, West Jaintia Hills 22, South Garo Hills 22, North Garo Hills 15, East Garo Hills 14, East Jaintia Hills 12 and South West Garo Hills 11.

      East Khasi Hills reported 89 recoveries, West Garo Hills 70, Ri-Bhoi 65, West Jaintia Hills 62, North Garo Hills 29, West Khasi Hills 15, South West Garo Hills 12, South Garo Hills 11, South West Khasi Hills nine, East Jaintia Hills eight and East Garo Hills five.

      Four fatalities were recorded in East Khasi Hills, as well as one each in Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills.

      There are now 4,221 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 1,295 active cases, West Garo Hills 1,005, Ri-Bhoi 587, West Jaintia Hills 378, South West Khasi Hills 230, West Khasi Hills 178, North Garo Hills 140, East Garo Hills 133, South West Garo Hills 103, South Garo Hills 102 and East Jaintia Hills 70.

      In all, Meghalaya has had 58,833 Covid-19 cases, of which 4,221 are active, 53,638 have recovered and 974 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has declined to 91.17 percent. The fatality rate stayed level at 1.66 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases jumped to 456.14 and has increased for new deaths to 7.57.
