Governor Satya Pal Malik has taken cognisance of the recent deaths of Rose and Samuel Sangma and has pushed for a “free and fair” investigation by the authorities.
Malik, who travelled to New Delhi today, has already written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the matter.
Rose and Samuel Sangma were residents of Dimapur in Nagaland but died in circumstances that have caused deep consternation and suspicion among their family, the Garo community and wider North East.
In a press release today, Raj Bhavan said that the Governor will raise the matter in person with the authorities in question during his time in the national capital to ensure that justice is served for the two deceased.
Clan members grateful
Meanwhile, the Rongmitu/Rongrokgre Mahari Association of Tura has expressed thankfulness for the support shown by organizations and the public for the two victims.
“We are anguished over the tragic and mysterious death of Rose R Sangma and her nephew Samuel R Sangma the following day in Gurugram, Haryana. The circumstances in which the deaths occurred are highly suspicious and condemnable,” said the association.
The clan members said it would extend its full support to the family members of the deceased in their demand for a speedy and impartial investigation into the incident so that the truth behind may be revealed.
“The manner in which one particular doctor and staff of Alpha Hospital in Gurugram treated Rose R Sangma leading to her untimely death and brutal physical assault meted out by none other than the doctor himself to her nephew Samuel R Sangma as he tried to question their doubtful action is nothing short of shocking and disgusting, deserving condemnation in strongest terms,” they added.
Condemning the negligence of the hospital in question, the Maharis stated that they held the hospital responsible for what they termed as a barbaric and inhuman act, unbecoming of the medical profession.
The clan members thanked all those who stood in support of the family and hoped a fair probe would be undertaken so that the culprits may be booked and exemplary punishment given to the guilty.
