The East Khasi Hills, district administration, has permitted upto 20 percent of commercial transport in urban areas and 50 percent in rural areas.
Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo said this order was made taking cognisance of the number of cases in many rural areas, and in the interest of regulating movement within the district so that there is no transmission of Covid-19 from one area to another.
The plying of local taxis and auto rickshaw will take effect from June 28 from 6 am to 6 pm daily.
According to the order, for Shillong Urban Agglomeration and adjoining areas there will be 20 percent movement of local taxis and auto rickshaws within Shillong urban agglomeration and adjoining areas falling within, Municipality area, Cantonment area, Census Towns and villages under Mawlai C & RD Block, all Census Towns and villages under Mawpat C & RD Block and areas under Mylliem C & RD Block.
“There will be no transportation of passengers outside Shillong urban agglomeration and its adjoining areas. Any inter-district movement and movement outside Shillong urban agglomeration and its adjoining areas will be only through passes duly obtained from the authority concerned,” Laloo stated in her order.
Vehicles ending with 1 and 2 will ply on June 28 (Monday) and July 3 (Saturday), while vehicles ending with 3 and 4 willl ply on June 29 (Tuesday), vehicles ending with 5 and 6 will ply on June 30 (Wednesday), on July 1 (Thursday) vehicles ending with 7 and 8 and on July 2 (Friday) vehicles ending with 9 and 0 will ply.
Areas falling within Sohra and Pynursla (Civil) Sub-Division 33 percent will ply per day, but there will be no transportation of passengers to Shillong Urban Agglomeration and its adjoining areas except only for essential reasons and with passes duly obtained from the SDO (C) concerned.
Areas falling within C & RD Blocks of Mawryngkneng, Mawkynrew, Mawsynram, Sohiong and Mawphlang C & RD Blocks will also ply at 33 percent per day.
With regards to the seating capacity for local taxis apart from the driver three passengers are allowed while in auto rickshaws apart from the driver two passengers are allowed to sit.
“Vaccination status should be clearly indicated on the vehicles as per this office order,” the Deputy Commissioner stated.
She also added that wearing of double mask or N-95 is mandatory, even for a single person driving a vehicle. In case of persons travelling in any private car with valid pass or authorisation, up to 100 percent of its seating capacity, wearing of double mask or N-95 is mandatory for all the persons.
“Use of sanitisers is mandatory. Proper ventilation of the vehicle is advisable,” Laloo added.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner said that pillion riding is not allowed except with women or children in case of two wheelers with valid pass or authorisation.
