A conglomeration of NGOs from South Garo Hills district, including the GSU, FKJGP and ADE have written a letter to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma seeking the extension of contract to teachers that have grown past the age limit.
The request for extension of contracts of teachers comes in the wake of reports filed by a social activist of at least 26 schools going without a teacher and close to a 100 vacancies lying in the various schools of the district.
In their letter, the NGOs mentioned the positive role played by teachers in the development of children and also the sacrifice of the over age teachers by serving in vulnerable areas.
