In a delayed report, the Meghalaya Lokayukta has ordered an inquiry into a complaint filed by activist, Kingstone B Marak, over allegations of non-implementation of projects under various central schemes in the GHADC.
The inquiry, as per the order, is into 38 projects awarded to the current CEM’s, Benedict Marak’s constituency, Raksamgre as well as against contractors, Sanjay A Sangma and Dolrich D Sangma. Sanjay is the brother-in-law of Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma.
The order dated May 10, was passed asking the directorate enquiry wing of the Lokayukta to conduct a preliminary inquiry and submit a report. However, with the onset of the second wave of Covid-19, no breakthrough has been made into the case as yet.
“38 projects were awarded to Raksamgre constituency and the term for completion of the project were two years but most of these projects remain incomplete till date,” said the complaint.
Further Sanjay A. Sangma was awarded the project for construction of Member Hostel, Tura under Special Assistance for the period of 2015-2016 for an amount of Rs 6,01,31,100. Another project was awarded to Dolrich D Sangma for construction of Court building at Tura under Special Assistance in the same year. The cost of the Court building is Rs 3,52,12,280.
“The period for construction of the above-mentioned projects was two years. However, till date the said projects have not been completed,” added the complaint.
“Due to the lockdown, I was unable to access the order copy. We have been informed that the complainant’s petition has been sent to the Directorate of Enquiry Wing of Meghalaya Lokayukta to conduct the preliminary enquiry. We are awaiting the results of the inquiry but the same will be delayed due to the Covid situation,” said advocate for Kingstone, PT Sangma.
