Every year children are typically able to observe World Environment Day at school, however, 2020 and 2021 has seen a shift in the lives of young ones towards the indoors because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
To enable the students of Rainbow Kids Pre School in Nongrah to connect with nature, they were assigned the task of planting saplings and plants in their garden or flower pots in their home today.
“The detachment of children’s contact with nature is negatively impacting their knowledge, with natural experiences not imprinted on their minds with the pandemic,” school teacher D Rynjah told Highland Post today.
She said that involving the children in coming into contact with soil, water and plants helps in restoring their balance in cognitive thinking and questioning.
“The kids are also able to enjoy their time in their garden, or even just a balcony or terrace, among the plants and have quality time with their family and nature,” she said, adding that it is very important for children to know about the significance of World Environment Day, which is to spread awareness about the threat to the environment due to rising pollution levels and climate change.
