The Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has alleged that a woman died in a Primary Health Centre (PHC) because of delays and an absence of staff and doctors in the facility.
Informing that when the members of the FKJGP South Khasi Border Circle, led by general secretary Kyrmen Shangdiar, met the family of Mumy R Marak, it was learned that the deceased gave birth alone because no one attended her, the federation said.
“We also came to learn from the people of the area that the service provided by the VHAM (Voluntary Health Association of Meghalaya) is not up to the mark.”
The FKJGP has demanded the government to do away with the agreement signed with the VHAM and at the same time appoint doctors who can speak the Khasi or Garo languages so that the rural population in the area benefit the most.
The federation also alleged that there are no staff and doctors at the Dangar PHC. It also met Health Minister AL Hek and demanded that an inquiry should be constituted into the matter.
