Social activist Greneth Sangma has questioned the South Garo Hills district administration over its allowing vehicles from outside the state to ply during the lockdown while local vehicles have been restricted from plying during the ongoing lockdown.
“There seems to be a soft corner for vehicles from outside the state while local cars are under strict rules during this curfew. These vehicles don’t even bring essential goods to the district despite which these vehicles are randomly allowed,” said Greneth in his complaint to the deputy commissioner today.
Recently a pass was issued to a vehicle carrying fishes for breeding with the pass allowing the vehicle to move from Dainadubi in NGH to Rongara in SGH. According to Sangma, the surprising part of the entire deal was that there are no fish breeding centres in either Dainadubi or Rongara.
“We get our fish either from Bangladesh or Dudhnoi in Assam. It seems someone is misleading you on the matter. If you pay a surprise visit on the same road during the night, you will really be surprised. There are even coal trucks plying,” added Sangma.
He further added that the pandemic is serious and needed to be taken seriously while requesting the DC to stop such passes before the pandemic situation gets worse in the district.
