      Hospitals in city packed, only few beds left

      As the Covid-19 situation in Meghalaya worsens, there is further bad news as hospitals are now facing shortage of beds.

      According to an official data provided by the Health Department today, beds in most hospitals in Shillong are occupied with little chance of admitting any more patients.

      Shillong Civil Hospital now has only one bed left. Out of the total 115 beds, 114 have already been occupied by patients.

      Similarly, Ganesh Das Hospital has only two beds left. Out of 42 beds in this maternity and child health hospital, 40 have been occupied.

      Reid Chest Hospital (TB Hospital) now has only four beds that are left unoccupied. Out of 24 beds, 20 have been occupied by patients.

      Gordon Roberts Hospital which is run by KJP Assembly is also running out of beds. The hospital now has only four beds left. Out of the total 50 beds, 46 have already been occupied.

      Bethany Hospital, a leading private hospital in the city, has only five vacant beds. Out of the total 58 beds, 53 have been occupied.

      Another private hospital, Supercare Hospital, has only seven beds that have not been occupied. Out of the total 83 beds, 76 beds have been occupied by patients.

      Similar is the case with Woodland Hospital, another private healthcare facility in the city. The hospital now has only seven beds left. Out of the total 42 beds, 35 have already been occupied.

      Military Hospital has just nine beds that are unoccupied out of the total 18 beds.

      Nazareth Hospital has only 14 beds left. Out of the 100 beds in the hospital, 86 have been occupied.

      BSF Hospital at Umpling has only 18 beds left out of the total 30 beds.

      Super specialty hospital, NEIGRIHMS, is also facing a huge shortage of beds due to the surge in the number of patients.

      According to the data, NEIGRIHMS now has only 19 beds that are still vacant. Out of the total of 155 beds in the hospital, 136 have been occupied.

      Similar shortages of beds have been witnessed in hospitals in other towns of the State such as Nongpoh Civil Hospital, Khliehriat Civil Hospital and Woodland Hospital, Jowai.
