Shillong, Aug 13: The Shillong Traffic Police detected a total of 1,634 traffic violations and collected ₹14,23,500 in fines during enforcement drives carried out in July 2026.
According to the data released by the department, the highest number of cases were registered for obstruction to traffic under Section 201 of the Motor Vehicles Act with 146 cases, fetching ₹73,000 in fines.
Disobedience of order under Section 179(1) accounted for 66 cases with ₹1,32,000 collected. Driving without a helmet under Section 194D saw 50 cases and ₹50,000 in fines, while driving without insurance under Section 196 resulted in 17 cases and ₹34,000 collected. Nine cases of drunk driving under Section 185 were also booked, leading to ₹90,000 in penalties.
The department further informed that the entire fine amount has been duly deposited in the government treasury. Officials said that traffic enforcement will continue in the coming months to ensure better road discipline and safety in Shillong.
