      WGH issues advisory for Eid

With Eid to be celebrated on Friday, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has issued an advisory for the general public about how the holiday can be observed safely in Covid times.

All prayers should be offered at home and any gathering at home or in other private places or by visiting neighbours is to be strictly avoided to minimise disease transmission and persons with a history of inter-state travel should strictly follow the latest Covid-19 protocols for entrants issued earlier by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Individuals must maintain a minimum distancing of at least five feet, use face shields or covers or masks and people with flu-like symptoms are advised to refrain from mingling with others. Frequent hand washing with soap or use of hand sanitizers approved by the Health Department must be practised by all.

Embracing (‘gale milana’), kissing and or shaking hands should also be avoided to prevent infection, the advisory stated and spitting is also strictly prohibited.

      Tura legal aid network

A legal aid network exists for people of West Garo Hills who are in need of legal help during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) have encouraged the public to use the network in case they need legal assistance.

The network consists of the District and Sessions Judge and the chairperson of the DLSA, D Kharbateng (9862584105), MK Lyngdoh, CJM and DLSA secretary (9436322007), and DLSA staff Rupa D Shira (9436313226) and Hemanli M Sangma (8787511799). The official email of the DLSA is dlsatura@gmail.com.

      Night time curfew in SWKH

South West Khasi Hills will undergo night time curfew from May 14 to May 21, it was announced today. Curfew timing will be from 10pm to 5am daily, the Deputy Commissioner informed. The curfew was necessitated, she said, in view of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic hitting the district and state as a whole.

Now pre-wedding guests told to self-isolate

One day after attendees of a wedding in Mawkyrwat were told to self-isolate, the guests of the pre-wedding event organised by the groom’s side have also been told to quarantine themselves.

The wedding was between Powerful Lyngdoh and Larisha Diengdoh. One of the people who attended the wedding in Mawkyrwat on Tuesday subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

Today, the Deputy Commissioner informed that a person at Lyngdoh’s pre-wedding celebration held in Mawten was also positive. It was not made clear whether it was the same person at both events. Those who were in attendance should isolate at home and call the control room on 9485153533 or 6033162971 for further instructions and advice.

      New containment zones

New containment orders have been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills to fight the spread of Covid-19 in Rangblang Sohsyniang and Mawten.

The houses and compounds of Martina Thyrniang from Rangblang Sohsyniang and Kwistinless Lyngdoh from Mawten have both been declared as containment areas.

Ri-Bhoi appeals to retirees to volunteer for Covid fight

The Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi has invited retired medical professionals to come forward and put their training and experience to use in battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

As of today, the district has 502 active cases, the second-highest in Meghalaya.

Retired doctors, paramedics, psychiatrists and counsellors are encouraged to volunteer. All those willing can submit their details to the DC’s office by email on eocribhoi@gmail.com.
