Shops in Ïewduh have been allowed to open by the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner subject to strict guidelines regarding days and opening hours, besides other Covid-19 restrictions, for the lockdown period up to May 10.
In an order passed today, wholesale fish shops and vegetable shops will be allowed to open daily (except Sundays). Fruit shops will be allowed to open on a rotational basis (eight shops per day). Eleven grocery wholesale shops will be allowed to open daily on a rotational basis as well. These shops can operate from 7am to 7pm.
The Incident Commander of Zone 4 and the Syiem of Hima Mylliem will regulate the opening of the aforementioned types of stores.
In addition, the DC said that shopkeepers and customers must follow standard Covid protocols regarding physical distance, facemasks and hand hygiene.
The market committee under the Syiem is authorised to fine people who do not adhere to the protocols or those who spit in public places. The market committee will also ensure that sanitization of the market is carried out before and after business hours.
The DC also advised customers to bring their own cloth bags, as the coronavirus is viable for longer on smooth surfaces like plastic bags compared to those made of cloth.
