The Meghalaya government has declared ten areas in three districts of the state as the “epicentre” of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Principal Secretary A.H & Veterinary Department GHP Raju told that Mawlai Nongkwar, Pig Farm Nongpyiur, Thangsning, Kseh Pyndeng, Nongkseh and Lygkyrdem in East Khasi Hills District, Raitong, Umran Dairy and Patarim in Ri Bhoi District and Pig Farm Nongstoiñ in West Khasi Hills District have been declared as “epicentre” of ASF.
He said that based on the test result of pig samples from ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal on April 13 there is an outbreak of ASF. Hence restrictions have been put in place as per the National Action Plan for control, containment and eradication of African Swine Fever prepared by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
The restrictions are applicable with immediate effect in the villages under 1 km radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as “Infected Zone” and in all villages falling under 10 km radius surrounding infected premises (epicenter of disease) designated as “Surveillance Zone”.
