Vendors along the Laitsohpliah viewpoint have not recovered from the impact of the lockdown induced by Covid-19 pandemic.
Located about 35 kms from the capital city, the Laitsohpliah viewpoint drew hordes of tourists from across the country and abroad every year before the pandemic. But now barely any tourists coming through even as most of the restrictions have been relaxed the road to recovery is little far.
“Coronavirus has turned everything upside down and with no more tourist activities like before we hardly earned a sum of Rs 100-200 per day,” an elderly woman who runs a shop near the viewpoint told Highland Post.
She said most of the shops that were shut down during the lockdown have not reopened to date because they know there are no or very few visitors from other states. “We usually earn Rs 1500-2000 per day before the lockdown from tourist,” she added.
To add to the misery of the old woman, she said that during the lockdown miscreants looted most of the valuables from her shop that she had heavily invested in and now she is finding it hard to recover everything she lost.
“I just hope that the government and the people in power know and think what is happening to poor people like us when these kinds of things happen,” she lamented.
