Cracking down on the transportation of illegal coal in the state, the East Garo Hills police seized two trucks this afternoon while they were transporting coal without valid documents.
According to information received, the two trucks were carrying coal from Jadi in South Garo Hills through Chiading in East Garo Hills up to Garobadha in South West Garo Hills.
Upon receiving information of their movement, the Circle Inspector of Williamnagar, BK Mishra, stopped the trucks on a road near the highway, after which coal was found in them.
The trucks were apparently on their way to Garobadha to supply the various brick kilns along the route. The trucks were without any valid documents for transportation of coal.
“We have apprehended the vehicles and seized the contents with a case being registered accordingly. The drivers of the two vehicles have been arrested,” confirmed Superintendent of Police Bruno A Sangma.
