The 125th Birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, “Patriot of Patriots” was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour in a function held at statue of Netaji within the premises of Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong today.
Organised by Greater Shillong Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee (GSNSCBBCC), followers and disciples of Netaji converged at the venue from different localities to pay their homage and respect.
The National Flag was hoisted by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who in his address announced that a state level committee will be constituted soon to chalk out programmes for successful year-long celebration in the state.
He recalled the active association of his father Late P.A. Sangma with other national leaders in keeping alive the memory of Netaji and his efforts to ensure that legacy of Netaji was given the due honour it deserved. He also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for including him in the national committee for the yearlong celebration of Netaji’s 125 Birthday.
President of the committee, Naba Bhattacharjee recounted the sacrifice and self less commitment of Netaji during the freedom struggle in an inclusive approach inspiring people from all caste, creed and religion to come forward and associate with his ideology. He urged the Chief Minister that suitable programmes and memorials in Shillong during the year as Netaji visited the State on three occasions.
