Active COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya have fallen below 200, the Health Department revealed today.
It also said that there have been 12 recent returnees to the state from the United Kingdom and all have tested negative for the new, more infectious, strain of the coronavirus that is responsible for a massive uptick in cases in the UK.
“All the 12 returnees from the #UK were tested with RT-PCR and have been tested #COVID-19 Negative,” Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma tweeted.
There have been only 10 new Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya in the last three days (including Monday), a greatly reduced number possibly due to fewer tests being carried out over the Christmas holidays.
Three new COVID-related deaths occurred on Christmas day itself (though reported on Saturday).
Over 100 recoveries have been recorded in the last three days, taking the total to over 13,000.
In all, Meghalaya has had 13,379 COVID-19 cases, of which 199 are active, 12,894 have recovered and 138 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has climbed to 97.48 percent. The fatality rate is 1.03 percent.
The Health Department also informed that around 950 COVID tests were carried out in the last 24 hours.
A total of 73 persons are under institutional quarantine, and another 108 are under home quarantine/isolation.
Till Monday afternoon, a total of 2, 89, 092 have been tested out of which 2, 75, 713 tested negative for the virus.
Also a total of 76, 926 persons have entered the State from various parts of the country and outside.
